Put Your Face In Everything

I see many students constantly struggling to get out there an make a face for themselves.  They try to get internships at their dream places and are continuously turned down.  Then they come to me, and ask me how I was successful.

My answer, of course, begins with how I am not successful - yet; but I am on the right path.  So how did I manage to find this path of success? By putting myself out there.

I decided to make sure everyone knew my name.  I applied everywhere, got thousands of followers on G+, made a blog, made a website, and went to every event I could.  Even if the connections I made didn't go anywhere, they still knew my name.

The reason behind this is because I this world is unbelievably small.  I could apply somewhere, some random person may see the name and say "Oh yeah! That's the girl with the obnoxious lazer kittens blog~"

Whether that's a good or bad thing... who cares.  It's still a name.

Having people be like "oh yeah.. that's the girl with the cat ears" or something random is just a start.  It's a subconscious seed that may lead to future opportunities.  The main opportunity is networking.  Even if someone I meet doesn't have a position for me, they know others who might.

This method hasn't failed me yet.

Though, I must be very diligent and watch every step I make.  With having your name out there, like any celebrity, someone wants to take you down; and the internet is the best way to destroy someone's reputation.

I have to make sure that I don't do anything that can cause rumors, that I don't do anything that can cause others to question my liability.  Thankfully, this hasn't been too hard for me; but I'm just a lucky one.

So, continuing on... how do you make a good name for yourself?  Well, one step is by being friendly to everyone.  This isn't so hard for me, since I have been this way since birth.  I'm extremely non-judgmental and like to make friends with everyone.  Sure, maybe in the past (like in high school) this has caused drama (for example; some girl saying I was trying to steal her boyfriend because I was talking to him);  but now that I associate myself with intelligent intellectuals, this hasn't caused any drama for years.  I am just a friendly person and like to learn about people.  So my recommendation is to throw caution to the wind and talk to as many people as possible.

Of course, always practice safe internets.  Don't give away your phone number or address, don't give away obnoxiously personal information, etc.  But, being safe shouldn't effect your conversations.  I have great conversations daily on G+! One person who I need to remember to talk to soon is +Tony Love.  He is amazing, and I probably haven't talked to him in a few weeks!

Along with getting to know a ton of people, you will learn many new things.  I've learned so much thanks to the people I have met on G+, I am eternally thankful.  They have really helped me.

And I have helped them.

I engage, I talk to, I am friendly, I help out.  This makes your name memorable.  Don't be shy, don't hide away and think that a great job will find you, because it won't.  Go out there, make connections, help people - and people will help you.

I know this is a sort-of jumbled rant.  But I really hope people listen to it.  If you want to get out of your current position then network! Though, obviously this does not apply to those who are already happy with where there at.  To those people, I applaud you~

Ok, enough with the rant.
I'll be recording a video soon! I had some health insurance stress issues this weekend, so that has delayed everything... I'm still pretty stressed, but I really want to talk about some ideas that people suggested to me! So hopefully Monday or Tuesday I'll have some time :)

PS. Photography is a great way to network with people! This is a woman who I met at Wells Beach, ME. Her dog has the glasses because he rides on the back of her motorcycle!
